*BALCO strengthens safety culture, training 27,000+ people over last five years*

त्रिनेत्र टाइम्स कोरबा **//**//**// *Balconagar, September 28, 2026:* Bharat Aluminium Company Limited and unit of Vedanta Aluminium Metal Limited, continues to strengthen its safety-first culture through mandatory safety induction and training, practical safety engagement activities, and community awareness sessions conducted throughout the year. These efforts reinforce BALCO’s longstanding commitment to Zero Harm, ensuring a responsible and safer work environment for its workforce and people living in nearby communities.
The mandatory safety induction for all employees, business partners and visitors aims to ensure that individuals are aware of potential safety risks that they may otherwise overlook as new entrants to the workplace. It also familiarises them with standard safety practices to help keep themselves and those around them safe from potential incidents before they access operational areas. This is followed by a safety assessment to reinforce the understanding and application of safety norms. Over the last five years, BALCO has inducted more than 27,000 individuals, helping embed safety as a behavioral practice across its operations. In FY26 alone, more than 2.30 lakh man-hours of safety training were completed.
Speaking on making safety an integral part of one’s behavior, Mr Rajesh Kumar Singh, CEO & Whole-time Director, BALCO, said, “At BALCO, safety defines the way we work, lead and make decisions every day. For us, Zero Harm is a shared responsibility, driven by vigilance, ownership and care for one another. We aim to make safety a behavioral practice and create a safe and resilient workplace where every individual acts responsibly, ensuring that they and their peers return home safely.”
BALCO has extended its safety culture beyond training. Through flagship events such as Suraksha Sankalp, the company has been sensitising employees and business partners on workplace safety for almost five years. Each edition of Suraksha Sankalp is centred around a unique theme, driving awareness and encouraging the adoption of safety best practices.
Similarly, to drive behavioral change around safety, BALCO has implemented several focused initiatives to strengthen its safety culture across all levels of the organisation. Through Safety Steward, elected safety champions from the shop floor become ambassadors of safety, promoting awareness and safer work practices. Suraksha Pahal promotes road safety awareness, while Suraksha Jyoti equips supervisors with structured safety training and strengthens their safety leadership capabilities. Suraksha Prahari and Suraksha Chaupal serve as interactive platforms that enable senior management to engage directly with supervisors, discuss safety concerns, share insights and drive safety-conscious decision-making, ensuring that safety is addressed at every level of operations.
Earlier this year, BALCO also launched Safety Park, a dedicated experiential learning space that transforms safety training into an interactive experience. Equipped with engaging models, practical modules and visual demonstrations, the park helps participants visualise safety protocols and learn safer workplace behaviors. In recognition of its commitment to road safety, BALCO has also been honored with the Global Road Safety Award 2026 for its robust road safety practices.
